Breathable roofing and walling membrane – Ampatop Protecta – 1.5m x 50m
Ampatop Protecta breathable membrane is:-
- a triple layer, tear proof, highly vapour permeable underlay for all pitched roofing applications.
- based on the latest monolithic membrane technology, using water repellent fibres instead of stretched PTFE.
- a vapour open, wind-proof membrane for use in roofing and behind cladding systems.
- driving rain resistant and highly resistant to ageing, suitable for up to 3 months full weather exposure.
- used as part of our roof, wall and floor insulation strategies.
Product overview
Where is it used?
- For use on the outside of timber frame walls, behind clad facades to ensure resistance to weather and insects.
- For use on all types of pitched roof structure.
How is it used?
- Ampatop Protecta breathable membrane can be stapled to the topside of rafters or the outside of timber battens/studs.
- All joints should overlap by at least 100mm and any vertical joints should be taped with Ampacoll Flexx Pro external airtightness tape prior to counter battening or being over boarded/clad.
- Use Ampacoll DT double sided tape to stick the membrane down to wood fibre or OSB surfaces prior to counter battening.
- Any penetrations of rafters, vents, ducts or pipes should be sealed with Ampacoll BK 535 penetration sealing tape.
How much will you need?
Each roll of Ampatop Protecta breathable membrane is 50m long and 1.5m wide. It covers an area of 70m2 including overlaps.

Do I need to tape the joints?
Yes, you should always tape the laps, usually with the Ampacoll Flexx Pro external airtightness tape. This ensures the wind-tightness of the exterior of the building and reduces heat loss from wind penetration (also known as wind washing).
How long can I leave it exposed?
This membrane is very UV stable and can withstand up to 3 months of weathering without deterioration. Beyond this the sun can slowly begin to degrade the strength and weather resistance of the membrane.
